Distribution

Wide Release, an expensive release method but also the most common, with this method, the film is released in nationally in all markets. This method is used mostly by the majors as for this method to succeed they must posses the marketing power to heavily invest in prints, and advertise in general.

Modified Wide Release, The film will open in a few major markets in the first week, rather than in all markets, the film then expands, relying on word of mouth to build awareness and reputation. this type of release also uses spot marketing which is advertising in a specific area, such as one city, then the advertising will spread to other national areas once it expands to other markets.

Exclusive and limited runs, This means the film will be released on a limited number of screens, usually in large urban areas, Toronto is an example of an area this technique is used in a lot. Positive reviews and word of mouth should then help the film to spread to additional theaters. This method is usually used for Art house or foreign films such as 'Ex_Machina' or 'Kill List
